Healthy skin is important for many reasons. It helps create a barrier to keep germs and bacteria out of your body. It also helps you look and feel your best. How do you know if your skin is healthy? By monitoring it, you are better able to figure out if there might be a problem that needs to be addressed. 1. Is Your Skin Smooth to the Touch?
In general, smooth skin is healthy skin. When it’s covered in bumps and blemishes, it could indicate that you have an issue that needs to be looked at by a doctor. When your skin is smooth, it means you don’t have clogged pores and that it’s adequately hydrated. So, run your hands over your entire body now and then to see if there are any rough, bumpy patches that need your attention.
2. Do You Have Dry, Scaly Patches?
At the least, this can indicate dry skin, but it can also point to several skin issues that should be seen by a doctor. Healthy skin is never dry or scaly so if you notice the issue anywhere on your body, it’s time to get yourself evaluated. Chances are you just need to moisturize more often, but you could also be suffering from an issue that needs a special treatment plan.
3. Do You Buy Products That Are Designed for Your Skin Type?
Even if the products you use aren’t causing noticeable issues, it’s a good idea to choose those that are formulated for your skin type, be that oily, dry or normal. If you’re using the correct cleanser, moisturizer and cosmetics, you know your skin is benefitting from it to the highest degree. If you don’t know your skin type, talk to your dermatologist so that you can be sure you’re getting items that work best for you.
4. Are You Suffering from Frequent Breakouts?
Here’s the truth – if your skin is covered with zits and blemishes, it’s not as healthy as it could be. Breakouts are caused by clogged pores, which can occur due to dirt, grime, bacteria and germs getting on your skin. Regular cleansing can help, but you might also need to use a medication to control the problem and restore your skin to its healthiest level.
5. Does It Bounce Back when Pinched?
Try this. Pinch the skin on the back of your hand. Does it bounce back into place right away or does it take a few seconds? Healthy, hydrated skin should return to normal right away. Despite covering your entire body, you shouldn’t be able to feel your skin. If it’s tight or itchy, you probably need to moisturize more often to pump it full of hydration. Dry skin tends to look dull and lifeless, but pumping up the moisture can restore your entire body to its radiant self.
