7 Steps That Will Make Backne a Thing of the past ...

No one likes having backne. It’s bad enough to deal with acne breakouts on your face but when you get it on your body as well, it’s even worse. But there’s good news! There are things you can do to make backne a thing of the past.

1. Change Your Sunscreen to a Non-comedogenic Formula

Your sunscreen could actually be a part of your backne problem. Sunscreen is a good product and a very important one. You do need to wear it but make sure you’re wearing one that won’t cause backne. Check the label to see if it says non-comedogenic which means it won’t clog pores. If that’s true then your sunscreen is a perfect choice. If it isn’t non-comedogenic then it’s probably a good idea to shop for one that is, ASAP.

2. Try a Body Wash for Acne Prone Skin

Your body wash could be the culprit of your backne or be exacerbating the problem. Choose a body wash that’s good at fighting body acne. Our doctor recommends Dial body wash but I’ve also had really good luck with Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash. It smells nice, too. If body washes aren’t your thing, then your best choice in bar soap would probably be an antibacterial formula.

3. Dial Back on the Body Lotion

You don’t have to completely give up body lotion if you have backne. But you may want to scale back on it a bit. Lotion could be feeding your backne by adding moisture to an already oily part of your body. Apply it to the areas of your body that body acne hasn’t hit. You can still enjoy the smooth feeling and fragrance of body lotion, just with a bit of caution.

4. Shield Your Back from Hair Products

If backne is an issue for you then you need to make sure you’re shielding your skin when you apply hair products. Most of us use at least a couple of hair products on our hair. If you’re only wrapped in a towel or in a spa wrap then your back and chest are very exposed to the hair products you’re applying. Getting dressed or wearing a robe is a better choice when you’re applying hair products. It protects your skin from things that could make your backne flare up.

5. Change Your Laundry Detergent

You may have never considered it but your laundry detergent could be to blame for your backne. If you’re using a laundry detergent that has dyes or fragrances in it, then it’s possible it could be making your backne worse. Color-free and fragrance-free laundry detergents are a better choice. I use All Free & Clear and it works wonderfully for my laundry. It’s also a good choice if you have allergy prone skin.

6. Check Your Diet

This is still a debatable issue but experts are leaning more and more toward believing that sugar could be a culprit of acne. Don’t panic, you don’t have to give up milkshakes or candy forever! But it may be a good idea to cut back on them. Maybe have a treat every few days instead of every day. There are many other benefits to eating less sugar, too.

7. Talk to Your Doctor

If you’re still struggling with backne despite your best efforts to kick it then it’s probably time to talk to your doctor. Both of my teenage kids really struggled with acne and body acne until we talked to their pediatrician about it. There are so many more options available than what you can purchase over the counter. There are many prescriptions available that can make a remarkable difference in your backne. It could be life changing for you!
