If you’re looking for skincare tips for women in their 40s, you have come to the right place. I haven’t yet reached this decade myself, but I’m collecting some great tips so that when the time comes, I’m ready for whatever life throws my way. As you age, your skin needs special treatment, especially the skin on your face. Aging is beautiful, but that doesn’t mean you should stop babying your skin. So without further ado, here are some ultra valuable skincare tips for women in their 40s.

1 Go Easy on Make-up

One of the most dreaded signs of aging are fine lines and wrinkles on your face. One of the best skincare tips for women in their 40s is to avoid caking on the make-up. I know it’s tempting to use foundation or powder to mask those signs of aging. However, as the day goes on, all that make-up settles in the lines and wrinkles, making them look much more pronounced. Go for lightweight, thin make-up to prevent this.

2 Try anti-Aging Products

No, they won’t totally prevent signs of aging or even get rid of the ones you already have. However, anti-aging cleansers, masks and other skincare products can help. They are formulated to plump the skin and also load your entire body up with ingredients that keep your skin looking healthy and young. Look for items labeled as anti-aging and you’re good to go.

3 Use Retinoids

This tip comes standard from dermatologists all over the world. That’s because retinoids can help slough your skin and leave younger, less lined skin shining through. You don’t want to go overboard with retinoids though. Most doctors recommend using them three times per week. Talk to your dermatologist about the best retinoid product for you.

4 Hydrate Your Skin

Hydration is a great way to keep your skin looking fresh, young and healthy. You can do this in a number of ways. One way is to make sure you are downing plenty of fluids over the course of each day. Water is a prime way to do this, but foods with a lot of water, such as cucumbers and watermelon, are also great choices. Applying facial oils is another simple way to load your skin up with hydration.

5 Use a Night Cream

I’ve been using a night cream since my 20s, but if you haven’t, now is definitely the time to start. Choose a good anti-aging cream designed for nighttime use. These products are specially designed to fight the signs of aging while you sleep. What could be easier?

6 Remember Your Sunscreen

You should wear sunscreen every day, no matter if you're 5 or 45. That being said, it’s important to keep slathering the sunscreen on all the time because the sun contributes to signs of aging. By wearing sun protection, you can minimize that damage and stay looking young and fabulous. Go for SPF under your make-up, even if you’ll only be outside for a few minutes. It’s never too late to start, so even if you haven’t worn SPF until now, you can still fight aging if you get started today.

7 Exfoliate

I love a good exfoliation! Exfoliation works to remove dead skin cells and leave the skin all over your body glowing and fresh. Look for exfoliator skincare products, or make your own by combing equal parts white sugar and olive oil. Use it gently all over your body and you’ll be amazed at how soft and smooth you feel afterward.
