If you are someone who suffers with the state of your skin, then you will know full well that there is nothing worse than a breakout! You try your best to keep your skin happy and content, but one little hormonal change or reaction to a product can cause mayhem for weeks and weeks! Usually, breakouts only tend to last a few days before calming back down again and to keep it this way there is definitely a list of things that you should be avoiding to keep your skin as healthy as possible. Here are some things that make your breakouts worse!
1. Constant Spot Treatment
Reaching for your favourite pimple treatments and creams might be second nature at this point, but you can actually do more damage than good if you overuse them. Putting too much product, even if it is medicinal, on your breakout areas can serve to just further clog up the pores. All in moderation.
2. Only Using during a Breakout
On the other end of the spectrum, you also won’t be doing much good if you only use your acne products after you have had a breakout. They are designed to be more preventative than curative, so use them according to directions and your skin will be better off for it.
It can be tempting to just scrub away at your skin until you have removed that first layer of zits but resist this temptation because that extra irritation and inflammation is only going to come back to haunt you later.
4. High Concentration
To get the quickest fix you might be tempted to opt for the products with the highest concentrations of benzoyl peroxide, but whilst this might help to remove your pimples, it can also be aggressive to your healthy skin at the same time. There are brands that offer up to 10 percent content, but you would be safer at around 2.5 percent in my opinion.
It’s human nature and it’s addictive, but picking your zits is one of the worst things you can do! You really need to give your skin the chance to heal in its own time;popping and picking it going to spread bacteria and cause scarring.
6. Falling for Hacks
Don't make the mistake of falling for every single skin and beauty hack that you see on Instagram. The truth is that most of these don’t work, and messing with your skin over and over is only going to cause it to get worse.
7. Premature Rinsing
When you have bought such a nice and expensive face wash, give it a little time to marinate on your skin before washing it off. If you rinse it too quickly, you aren’t letting the product release all of its benefits.
8. Not Moisturising
Even if your skin is oily and greasy, you still need to apply moisturiser on a regular basis. Oil and water content are completely separate issues for the skin, so even if you are greasy, you still need to give your skin the hydration that it needs to be healthier.
