1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Have you got some of this for cooking? Use it for beauty purposes as well. It's a natural anti-inflammatory, so use it to calm the itch. If you have sensitive skin, you should dilute the vinegar with water, otherwise you can apply it directly to the skin.

2. Cucumber

We already know how soothing cucumber is on your eyes, so try it on that annoying razor burn. If you've got some cucumber in the fridge, cut some slices and rub on your skin for 10 minutes. This is a good method if you don't want to have to wash anything off your skin.

3. Ice Cubes

Ice cubes will sooth that itchy sensation caused by razor burn. Wrap in a cloth and apply to the sore spots. You can also use a cloth and dip in ice cold water. Cold compresses should be applied on the area for up to 15 minutes.

4. Aspirin

Aspirin is one of those things that you probably have in your medicine cabinet, and like apple cider vinegar it's an anti-inflammatory. Dissolve a couple of tablets in enough tepid water to make a paste. Rub the paste on, leave for 10 minutes, and rinse with tepid water.

5. Yoghurt

This method works best on your legs; it could be rather impractical elsewhere! Mix plain yoghurt with honey and leave on for 15 minutes. You could also use some on your face; honey and yoghurt makes an excellent soothing face mask!

6. Baking Soda

Another store cupboard staple that will calm your skin is baking soda (I've tried this for eczema, and it does work). You need one tablespoon of soda in one cup of water. Apply with cotton wool, leave on for 5 minutes, then rinse off. Repeat a few times a day.

7. Oatmeal

Here's another store cupboard item that can be turned into a treatment for razor burn. You may have heard that it can be used for baths to calm eczema. Mix with an equal part of plain yoghurt, add a teaspoon of honey, and leave on for 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

8. Sugar Scrub

Since razor bumps are caused by the hair getting stuck, using a scrub can help to alleviate the problem. Make your own scrub with 2 tablespoons of white sugar and 2 of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of honey and 4 of coconut oil. Leave on for 10 minutes then rinse.

9. Olive Oil

If you have some olive oil in the kitchen, you've got an answer to razor burn. Mix 1 tablespoon with a few drops of tea tree oil and dab on with cotton wool. Rinse off after 15 minutes.

I've also used coconut oil.

Watch out rinsing off oatmeal. You can easily get a plugged drain.
