As if acne on your face wasn’t bad enough, sometimes it crops up on other areas of your body, such as your back or chest. When that happens, you might be too embarrassed to wear your summer clothes and you’re probably a bit uncomfortable too, aren’t you? Good news! You don’t have to suffer with body acne, because there are some super simple things you can be doing to eliminate it once and for all. If the problem persists, make an appointment with your dermatologist to rule out another issue.
1. Use Face Wash on the Affected Areas
One of the easiest things you can do when it comes to banishing body acne is to cleanse your skin with the same stuff you use to prevent acne on your face. You don’t have to wash your entire body with it, but use a bit on the parts that have a breakout and you can treat the problem without a bunch of effort. You can do that, can’t you?
2. Stop Hanging out in Sweaty Gym Clothes and Go Take a Shower
When you get done working out, you are probably all damp and sweaty, right? Resist the urge to put your shower off until later. Sitting around in sweat soaking clothes increases the risk of body acne. Get those clothes off and take a warm shower, washing with gentle soap, and I bet body acne is a thing of the past.
3. Look for Body Creams, Lotions and Cleansers That Are Non-Comodogenic
Non-comodogenic means that the product won’t clog your pores. Clogged pores lead to breakouts so it makes sense to choose these items if you suffer from body acne. Read labels carefully so you’re sure you are getting items that will do what you want them too. In general, you want to avoid really heavy creams and mineral oil, both of which can clog pores.
4. Wear Cotton or Linen Clothing Whenever Possible
Synthetic fabrics don’t wick moisture as well as cotton and linen do. That means that if you do sweat, the clothing will stick to your body and can lead to breakouts. Choose cotton or linen, which pulls the moisture away from your skin and you might notice that you don’t get as many zits as before. If you do happen to get all sweaty, change into dry clothing as soon as possible.
5. Try Cutting Dairy and Sugar from Your Diet to See if That Helps
This isn’t the answer for everyone, but experts say that some people are sensitive to these items and eating them can result in skin issues, including acne. Talk with your doctor and decide on a meal plan that you can stick with. Watch for alleviating acne symptoms. If you notice a good change, you might have found your culprit. If not, you may need to try something else.
6. Drink More Water Every Single Day
Drinking enough water is important for proper hydration. Being dehydrated leaves your skin dry and unhealthy, which could be why you’re suffering body acne. Pump up your fluid intake and you’ll likely notice your breakouts getting better and better.
7. Go to the Salon and Have a Body Facial
I’ll take just about any excuse I can to go to the salon for some pampering. Having a body facial is a pretty effective way to battle body acne, according to skincare experts all over the world. The treatment involves a steam, scrub and peel, followed by a mask. This will remove all the grime and debris from your skin, leaving your body glowing and clean.
Do you get body acne? Which of these tips will you try? Do you have any others to add?
