If you suffer from acne, chances are you’ve tried a ton of things to make it go away. Still struggling? Learning more about the various types of treatments can help you make better choices for your skin. There are several different options for whatever specific acne woes are ailing you. Check out this easy to understand information and I bet you’ll be ready to try something new in no time. Of course, you should talk it over with your dermatologist before putting anything new on your acne.
1 For Occasional Breakouts, the Drugstore is Fine
If you only break out now and then or just get one single zit at a time, you’re fine to grab something from the drugstore. You need a zit zapping product that contains salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, which are both ingredients that help stop a zit from getting bigger and helps it heal faster. Keep a tube on hand so you’re always ready when a pimple crops up.
2 Moderate Acne May Require a Prescription Treatment
If you have acne that’s a bit more persistent, a prescription might be necessary to get rid of your breakouts. There are loads of choices and your dermatologist will help you figure out which one is best for you by asking you questions about your breakouts and having a look at your skin. Together, you can agree on a product that will help treat your acne.
No matter what type of acne you have, a topical gel is a great choice. They battle moderate acne, but can also be effective for mild breakouts. They soothe the acne and help alleviate swelling, which can make you more comfortable and make it easy to cover the acne with make-up. Dab the gel on affected areas and you’re good to go.
4 Sometimes, You Should Look for an All-over Product
If your acne is unpredictable and can crop up anywhere, you need a product that is meant for use all over. This helps treat the breakouts that are already there, but also helps treat and prevent those that haven’t started yet. Look for a pimple treatment that is designed for use on all skin and apply it regularly.
5 Look for a Product That is Meant to Go on in Layers
Many acne medications are meant to be used in small amounts to start, then layered on as you build your routine. Look for a product with instructions that tell you to start with a very thin layer of acne medication. Over time, you’ll put on a bit more to keep up with the results.
6 Acute and Severe Acne Needs an Oral Medication
If you have really bad acne, your dermatologist might prescribe an oral medication. These are generally meant to treat hormonal issues that cause the acne in addition to helping alleviate the actual breakout. Make sure you follow the dosage directions exactly for the best results.
7 Find an Acne Treatment That is Meant for Your Skin Type
As with any skincare product, it’s a good idea to find one that is meant for your skin type. Treating acne on oily skin is a bit different than treating it on dry skin, so taking this into account can speed and boost your results.
How do you treat your acne? Are you hoping one of these items will make it even better?
Ashley Just use a really good toner. I recommend clean and clear
Thania read my article about treating acne for good 💯💯
Cmiranda1105 Nour Hammoud, Yes, it does! After I wash my face, (I usually use a cleanser that exfoliates as well) i pat my face dry lightly with a towel. Then I put a little tea tree oil on a cotton ball with a little water and gently rub it all over my face, then lightly pat my face dry again. I only do it right before bed. And my face has been clear ever since. Everyone's skin is different so I would definitely recommend testing it out on a little area of the skin to make sure you don't have any allergic reactions to it.
Parth How skin care works
Dennalll Just to clarify I meant coconut water, water is obviously great for your skin
Dennalll I know not everyone is the same but I have mentioned this to a few friends and it has worked, try and stay away from milk and peanuts, peanut oil is the worst (peanut butter, Nutella etc) even coconut oil and water brings me out, the pill helps someone people but when you come off it as it did your body tries to regulate your hormones and the spots come back worse than before.
Msgrey Ive basically tried all face wash, gels etc to no use. When you have pretty bad acne ive found that the only things that has helped me is birthcontrol pills and also tea tree oil. But its not a permanent solution. The week im off the pills.. They come back again though not as severe..
Zoleka But generally before my prescription green tea is my savior.
Zoleka *roaccutane
Zoleka Oral prescription! I use rpaccutane and my face is almost clear. In only one month!
Cassieculbreth I use Epiduo, it saved my face
Hannah grammar
Hannah I use clear proof from Mary Kay and it work really good . I have really bad acne but I'm will to spend the money because it really works for my skin
Taylor I second the don't use toothpaste! Very bad bad idea for your skin. Sure you may not notice it now but in the long term, it's very bad for your skins ph level.
Pannacotta I use honey from the supermarket lol just dab it on the spot before bed and it clears it up in a few days for me. But idk it might not work for everyone.
Toniann I am 25 and have acute acne. Ive tried all sorts of medications, creams, gels etc but the only thing that works for me is Dr. Organics manuka honey soap. I wash with warm water and rinse with cold twice a day and it controls the acne well. I would defo recommend.
Alomemae I am on my second month of accutane I've once before many years ago did the accutane cycle and truly it's a miracle worker.
Alyx Don't use toothpaste! It's horrible for your skin. If you're going to use honey, make sure it's raw manuka honey and that you patch test on your forearm for 20 minutes to make sure you're not allergic. i am all for diy skincare but PLEASE do not use toothpaste, its way to acidic for your skin. It often has bleaching agents in it and can give you chemical burns if not rinsed off quick enough and can react to the sun in burns if you don't wash it off completely. I love making an oatmeal /seasalt spot treatment mist. I blend a cup of oats with a tablespoon of sea salt, blend till it's a powder, and mix a little with water or jojoba/sweet almond oil, and apply to the spot. Reduces scaring, redness and it's antibacterial.
Lynette Okay do I just use honey from supermarket? Where do I get honey or tea tree oil? I don't know about you all, but I'm well into my 30's and now have started getting acne when I was younger it was never a problem. Grrrr!!
Pearlfect08 The two things that absolutely work is honey on the spot. Or tea tree oil and aloe Vera. Literally I had a massive cystic acne bump last week that was red and swollen. I looked like I was punched in my face. I put the tree tea oil and aloe. The next day almost gone.
Piscesdreamer Thanks! I suffer from acne, so this helped a lot!
Wendy For pimples I used toothpaste and my acne scars I used a dab of honey my skin is clear now keep in mind they don't work overnight be patient to see results vary maybe a few weeks or a few months depends how deep the skin issue
Honey773 Would highly recommend it to anyone with the odd spot or acute acne!!
Honey773 Freedom (gel spot zapper) is the best thing that I have ever used!
