Have you ever heard of dry brushing your skin? It involves “brushing” your body with a hair brush. Experts say it helps unclog pores and exfoliate your skin to leave it looking healthy and radiant for your entire life. Statistics show that most people have never heard of the technique and that even fewer have actually tried it. Before you go forth with dry brushing your skin, consider the following things so that you can do it right and get the most out of it.

It Boosts Circulation

When you dry brush your skin, you stimulate the blood circulation, which many experts say help your body remove toxins. Doctors say that then your skin isn’t regularly exfoliated to remove dead skin cells and other icky stuff, it reduces its ability to get rid of toxins, which can lead to all sorts of skin issues.

It Helps Create a Barrier

Healthy skin keeps you warm or cool in extreme temperatures and helps ward off the damaging effects of chemicals and environmental toxins. Dry brushing your skin helps boost this barrier and ensure that it functions as optimally as possible. That’s because the brushing motion stimulates cells, nerves and glands so that they keep working like they should.

It May Reduce Cellulite

Before you get too excited, remember that you can’t get rid of cellulite, you can only help mask it. However, many skincare experts say that dry brushing can help reduce the appearance of cellulite all over body by helping to soften and break up the fat deposits under your skin that lead to the issue. By spreading the fat out, cellulite is less noticeable. Are you ready to try dry brushing now?

It Relieves Stress

Think of dry brushing as a type of massage. As you run the brush over your body, it helps relax and soothe you, reducing all the stresses of the day. You might find that you enjoy the process so much that you actually look forward to dry brushing.

You Need Natural Bristles

When you decide to get started with dry brushing, it’s important to find the right brush, which you should use only for the technique and nothing else. Look for a tool with natural bristles only. You can actually find dry brushes designed for your body, but if you can’t, a hairbrush with natural bristles will also work. Synthetic bristles are a big no-no and should be avoided for dry brushing,

Work from the outside in

Most experts suggest starting your dry brushing session with your hands and feet and working your way inward. Avoid dry brushing your face because it is too harsh for the delicate skin there. Likewise, avoid dry brushing any injured areas of your skin. That includes cuts, bruises and abrasions. Not only will it hurt, but you’ll also slow the healing process.

Shower Afterward

Think for just a second about all the stuff that will come off your body when you dry brush. It will be primarily dead skin cells. If you leave them there, they could worm their way into your pores, leading to breakouts and irritation. Always dry brush right before you shower so you can wash all that stuff off when you’re done.

Have you ever tried dry brushing? It’s definitely on my list of beauty treatments that I’ve got to get in on. Do you have any other information about dry brushing that you want to share?
