The steps to a quick facial are perfect for anytime you want a fast treatment at home without having to shell out for a trip to the spa. 1. Remove Make-up

The very first of the steps to a quick facial is to wash off all of the make-up on your face. You need a clean surface for a facial and having a bunch of stuff on your skin will interfere with the results you want. Use a make-up removing wipe and get rid of all the cosmetics you put on during the day. Now, with a fresh face, you’re ready for the rest of your quick facial.

2. Wash

Once all your make-up is washed off, it’s time to suds up. Use a gentle facial cleanser and make sure you wash your entire face and neck. That way, the facial produces the best results and you aren’t stuck with dirt and grime sliding down your face and onto your clothes.

3. Use Toner

The use of toner is debated, with some skin experts saying it’s unnecessary and others saying it’s imperative. Toner is a good idea for a facial because it works to close your pores and keep them free of bacteria and other icky stuff. This is perfect for a facial because your skin is as clean as it’s going to be and is therefore primed for the rest of the treatment.

4. Apply a Mask

There are so many choices, but it’s a good idea to find one that is designed for your specific skin type and any special needs you have. If you’re unsure which mask is right for you, talk to your dermatologist. Spread the mask in an even layer over your entire face, avoiding your eyes and mouth. Let it sit there for 5 to 10 minutes (this is a quick facial, remember?). Rinse with warm water.

5. Steam Treatment

You don’t have to do this step, but it’s super relaxing and leaves your skin fresh and clean. Fill a large bowl with very hot water. Lean your face over the bowl and drape a towel over your head to help the steam absorb into your skin. You can actually steam your face before you apply your mask if you prefer, but it works just as well after.

6. Rinse

Once you’re done steaming your face, give it a quick rinse with cool water to close up your pores and keep yucky stuff out. Pat your face dry. Never rub it because that’s too rough on the delicate skin on your face.

7. Moisturize

Now is the finishing touch. Apply a good quality facial moisturizer to your skin. If you do your facial before bed, choose a specially formulated night cream. Otherwise, a standard facial cream works just fine. You want to moisturize right after rinsing because damp skin does a better job of absorbing the lotion so it can work to its maximum potential.

There! You’re all done. Wasn’t that easy? How often do you do a facial at home? Do you have any other tips to add?

What happened to exfoliating (with either a physical or chemical scrub) and serums?

I just wanted to say that this article isn't completely correct because pores do no "open" and "close".

Anyone have an idea what cream I could use for pale skin ? And also foundation xx

I exfoliate twice a week..put creams after..but if I'm too tired I just put shea butter.

Steaming and exfoliating

coconut oil is a great all natural moisturizer that won't clog your pores!
