1

Get a Facial

Going to your favorite salon before your flight is one of the best ways to protect your skin on an airplane. Your aesthetician will likely exfoliate your face and give you a hydrating treatment that will leave it full of moisture and ready for the dry airplane air. If you prefer, you can give yourself the spa treatment at home by gently exfoliating your skin and following it up with your favorite lotion.

2

Stick to Your Skincare Routine

Now is definitely not the time to slack off on your skincare routine. Make sure you are cleansing and moisturizing your skin as usual so it’s ready for whatever the airplane has to offer. This also preps your skin for your vacation so you won’t have to worry about dryness or acne, which can often result from skipping your routine or changing it up.

3

Drink Lots of Water

You know that drinking plenty of water is always good for you, but it comes in especially handy on airplane trips. Guzzle water before and during your flight to counteract the dry cabin air. Grab a bottle before you board or ask the flight attendant to bring you one. That way you have a reminder to sip often. If you have layovers or long waits in the airport, keep a water bottle handy too.

4

Moisturize

It might feel weird, but it’s a good idea to slather on moisturizer just before you board your flight. That way your skin has a barrier and has locked in the moisture before being exposed to the dry air in the plane. If you feel tightness or itchiness on your skin during your flight, feel free to apply another layer. Make sure you put some more cream on when you land.

5

Avoid Alcohol

Yes, an in-flight cocktail is the perfect way to unwind and try to enjoy the trip. However, too much booze can really dry out your skin, which when combined with the dry airplane air can really suck the moisture out of your skin. If you must have a drink, try to stop at just one so that you don’t regret it when you arrive at your destination.

Choose the Right Snacks

Eating the right foods is always a good way to boost the health and appearance of your skin, but there are certain snacks during a flight that are better than others. Experts recommend staying away from salty snacks and opting for something hydrating instead. So skip the peanuts and grab a fruit salad or some sliced vegetables. You’ll be so much happier when you land.

7

Try Not to Stress out

It’s no secret that stress makes your complexion less than desirable. We’ve all seen the results of a rough week at work or the sleepless nights that come with being a new parent. Try not to let your flight stress you out and try to take it easy in the days leading up to your vacation. That way you board the plane relaxed and ready to enjoy your time away.

Does airplane air bother you? I love the idea of eating fresh fruits and veggies because you won’t start your vacation bloated and uncomfortable and you’ll stay hydrated at the same time. Do you have any other tips or tricks for combating airplane air?
