7 Ways to Banish Flaky Skin ...

If you are have suffered or do suffer, you know how difficult it can be to banish flaky skin. It is not a problem that can be covered with makeup. In fact, makeup tends to draw attention to dry flakes. Flaky skin can also be itchy and sore. The following methods to get rid of dry skin have worked for me, and hopefully they will banish flaky skin for you as well.

1 Avoid Hot Water

There is nothing I love more than to have a hot shower however, hot water is something you want to avoid if you are trying to banish flaky skin. Hot water causes your skin to dry out faster than warm water. Warm water relaxes your pores, which allows you to wash away the dirt. It also is not hot enough to cause dry skin. Try washing your face with warm water instead of hot water. It makes a big difference!

2 Use Mild Soap

While using warm water makes a big difference when you are trying to get rid of flaky skin, you also need to switch to a mild soap. Many soaps contain harsh ingredients that make your flaky skin worse. Sodium lauryl sulfate, alcohol, and fragrances will dry out your skin. Sticking to a mild soap helped ease my dry skin, and it should help yours.

3 Gently Exfoliate

When your skin is flaky, it can prevent moisturizer from penetrating your skin. The only way to get rid of flaky skin is to exfoliate. You should stick to a gentle exfoliator to avoid irritating your skin. You can even scrub your skin with the rough side of a wash cloth, which is gentle enough to not cause irritation. Once you get rid of the dead skin, you can focus on moisturizing.

4 Moisturize

After you wash and exfoliate your face, you should apply a moisturizer. You don’t need to use an expensive moisturizer. A simple moisturizer will work just as well. I have found coconut oil to be a great moisturizer. It keeps my skin hydrated and smooth. Since switching from an expensive moisturizer to coconut oil, my skin is actually much softer.

5 Take a Break from Makeup

Makeup can be very irritating to your skin and cause it to become dry and flaky, which is why it is a good idea to take a break from wearing it. Try not wearing makeup on the weekends. This is what I did, and it actually helped. Also, you may want to consider switching from a concealer to a tinted moisturizer. You will still get some coverage, but you will be getting the added benefit of a moisturizer.

6 Wear Sunscreen

Sun damage can cause dryness and irritation, which contributes to flaky skin. This is why wearing sunscreen is important when trying to get rid of flakes. To get the most benefit from your sunscreen, you want to make sure you wear it every day. Also, try and remember to reapply your sunscreen throughout the day, especially if you are going to be outside all day.

7 Stay Hydrated

When you are trying to get rid of flaky skin, you want to make sure that you are well hydrated. You may be surprised what a difference drinking water can make for dry skin. I notice that when I make an effort to drink a lot of water my skin is less dry. In addition to drinking plenty of water, you can also eat hydrating foods like cucumbers.
