7 Vital Ways to Prep Your Winter Skin for Spring ...

By Jennifer7 Comments

It’s been an awful winter, so I’ve never been more excited to share the many ways to prep your skin for spring as I am this year. Finally, we can put away our heavy moisturizers and start worrying about sun protection! But there are so many other important things to do while we’re making the transition from snow to sunshine. To get you started, here are seven vital ways to prep your skin for spring. Yippee!

1 Exfoliate

Knees, elbows, shins – all ashy, dry and itchy. That’s why my first in this short list of ways to prep your skin for spring is to find a good exfoliant, and use it! I’d suggest Soap & Glory’s Flake Away Body Polish, for two reasons. One, it works really well, gently sloughing away dry skin and pampering the soft, fresh skin underneath. Second, it smells divine!

Frequently asked questions

2 Lighten the Moisturizer

I’ve layered on as many as four different moisturizers each morning this winter, so I cannot wait to break out my favorite springtime moisturizer! It’s light, airy, and effective, offering all the hydration I need in one quick, easy step. I adore Josie Maran’s “Light” Argan Oil, but if you find that doesn’t offer enough hydration, try the original version. You’ll love it!

3 Don’t Forget the Lip Balm!

It’s been the Winter of Chapped Lips, and will go down in the record books as the winter we almost gave up kissing. But it’s over now, so let’s celebrate by breaking out our favorite sweet-scented and kiss-inducing lip balms, shall we? My favorite is Rosebud Perfume Co.’s Strawberry Lip Balm, non-sticky, lightly flavored, and all-around awesome.

4 Don’t Forget the SPF, Either!

BB Creams are wildly popular, and for good reason! They’re a miracle, combining all of the things your skin needs in one little tube: primer, moisturizer, light foundation, anti-aging treatment, and, if you choose the right one, SPF protection, too! You ought to have been wearing SPF all winter long, but in case you weren’t, now’s the time to start, with this BB cream with built-in SPF by Tarte, available in five shades.

5 Choose a New Scent

Along with changing up your facial skin routine, it’s also time to switch to your lighter, sweeter springtime scent! There’s always Marc Jacobs Daisy, or the brand-new Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Escape to Panarea perfume, but my old stand-by spring scent is DKNY Be Delicious. It’s light and fruity and, as the name implies, it smells positively delicious!

6 Sweet Cheeks!

Just because you’re playing it safe and avoiding the sun’s damaging rays doesn’t mean you have to give up your gorgeous rosy glow! That what’s blush and bronzer are all about, like this one, by Benefit, in the palest of pinks, perfect for spring. It’s so light and satiny!

7 Be Gentle

At the end of your busy spring day, it’s important to wash away all of your cares, so your skin can refresh itself overnight, while you dream of spring romance. This gentle cleanser by Philosophy is ideal, washing away makeup, dirt and oil, but gently, without irritating even the most sensitive skin. If you find you often forget to wash up before bed, keep a packet of Purity wipes next to your bed.

Now that you’ve finished this little check-list of spring skin-prep ideas, you’re ready for warmer temps and maybe your first pale pink pedi of the season. Can I come too? Which of these tips made you feel prepped for spring? Or is there another spring-time skin ritual I forgot to include?
