7 Sunscreens for Winter to Never Leave Your House without ...

By Heather

Wearing sunscreen on your face is important all year round, not just in summer, so I’ve rounded up my favorite sunscreens for winter for you to choose from if you’re considering applying one yourself. I wear sunscreen every day for a few reasons. First, it actually contains ingredients in it naturally that fight acne and wrinkles, without even advertising that it does so. These ingredients include zinc oxide and oxybenzone, just to name a few, but there are also others. These ingredients also act as a sunscreen for the skin and even make it look more toned and refined. I prefer oil free sunscreens for the best protection. These will moisturize your skin during the winter, along with protect it. Don’t leave your house without one of the following sunscreens for winter. You’ll see clearer skin, along with a more even skin tone as well. Winter sun can offer the same damaging UV rays that summer does, and even on cloudy days, your skin can take a hit. Try these out and let me know what you think!

1 Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 55 or Higher

Let’s start with my personal favorite of all sunscreens for winter, shall we? I’ve been using this product for years because it’s lightweight, reduces breakouts, makes my skin look sheer, soft and toned, and also reduces fine lines. Its high SPF level also helps prevent sun damage on all levels. I personally love that it goes on easily, absorbs quickly in my skin and it’s never greasy or sticky when applying it. I use it in the morning after I shower before I start my day. I also use it at night sometimes as a general moisturizer, since many forms break me out. You can get it for around $10 at drugstore.com.

2 DML Daily Facial Moisturizer

Rated as one of the top selling moisturizers for women that’s also a sunscreen, this product is one of the best in the bunch. It has an SPF of 25 and it’s also high in hyaluronic acid, which prevents damage and reduces fine lines and wrinkles. The moisturizers in this product are great for winter skin as well. It’s also oil free as a bonus, along with PABA free. This makes it a more skin friendly option and reduces toxic load to your skin. It's $12 at drugstore.com.

3 Coppertone Oil Free Sunscreen Face Lotion SPF 50

Coppertone has always been a top name brand in the sunscreen industry, and with good reason. This oil-free formula is moisturizing but won’t clog pores, and has plenty of SPF in it to protect your skin from winter’s damaging effects on skin. It’s lightweight, fragrance-free, hypoallergenic and affordable as well. It's just $10 at drugstore.com.

4 Hawaiian Tropics Faces Sunblock Lotion, Sensitive Skin, Oil-Free SPF 30

This lotion is lightweight, a top name brand and affordable. I love that it easily absorbs into skin, is non-greasy and it has a light smell to it so it doesn’t bother sensitive skin or allergies. It’s also inexpensive and is hypoallergenic. Find it for $8 at drugstore.com.

5 CotZ Face Sunscreen for Natural Skin Tones SPF 40

This sunscreen gets 5 stars across the board through users on many websites. It’s a little pricier than other common sunscreen products, but said to be worth the extra dollars. Its high SPF factor helps prevent UVA and UVB rays, along with enhancing your skin tone. It’s also water resistant, free of all chemical sunscreens and oil and uses more natural ingredients than other brands out there. It gives skin a silky, smooth finish that is also highly recommended by dermatologists. Get it for $19 at drugstore.com.

6 Bullfrog Ultimate Sheer Protection Sunscreen SPF 30

This is a great basic, low cost, oil-free moisturizer to choose. It won’t clog pores and is a great budget buy if you want good results without paying an arm and a leg for them. It contains 7 botanicals, 6 moisturizers and 4 antioxidants and also includes an anti-aging complex. It’s hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and would be my top choice if money was a factor. It's just $7 at drugstore.com.

7 Neutrogena Clear Face Sunscreen Lotion SPF 55

This product is a great option if you want all the benefits of Neutrogena products, which are almost too many to name, with added clear skin benefits. It contains the special helioplex technology that only Neutrogena products have, it’s lightweight, non-greasy and I enjoy the light, fresh smell it contains. It’s non-comedogenic, oil-free, PABA free, fragrance-free and also waterproof. Get it for $12 at drugstore.com.

Until I reached 26, I never really thought to use sunscreen, but have been doing so for 3 years, and my skin actually looks better now than it ever has. I would have never thought many of these sunscreens could replace my anti-acne facial lotions, but I’ve completely given those up now. I would recommend any of these brands of sunscreens for winter skin if you suffer dryness, breakouts, fine lines and dull looking skin. In my opinion, they work so great, the SPF is just a bonus! Do you use sunscreen in the winter?
