7 Basic Skincare Tips for Fall ...

Fall is in full swing and some of you might be experiencing some changes to your skin that make it more evident. My skin tends to get drier and itchier when the weather cools off. No matter what your fall skincare woes happen to be, there are some basic things you can be doing to keep your entire body covered in only the most gorgeous, glowing skin possible. Here they are! You’re going to thank me for sharing them with you.

Use Soap-Free Cleansers to Prevent Dry Skin

Scented soaps are a recipe for disaster when the air is cold and the furnace robs your skin of the moisture it needs. Make the switch to a soap-free cleanser for your face and your body to help preserve your skin. These products will clean your skin, but won’t remove all the moisture you need to keep your skin plump and healthy.

Start Using Creams Instead of Lotions

The two products are often used interchangeably, but there is a difference. Creams are better at creating a barrier on your skin so that it can fight off cold, dry air and keep your entire body hydrated and healthy. Put your lotions away until spring and summer and stock your medicine cabinet, purse and bathroom counter with thick creams that will make your fall skin just as beautiful as you want it to be.

Do a Full Body Exfoliation on a Regular Basis

Exfoliating your skin helps get rid of dead skin cells and other grime that collects on your body. When you do this, you refresh your skin and leave younger, cleaner looking skin in place of the dull, dry skin that fall often causes. A good full body exfoliation is a good idea at the beginning of the fall, but if things start to look icky again, do another one whenever the need arises.

Carry Hand Cream Everywhere You Go

Your hands are probably one of the areas on your body that suffer the most when fall arrives. You probably wash your hands more often to prevent illness and the cold, dry air often does a number on them, especially on days when you forget your gloves. Carry a good hand cream with you and you are able to hydrate and moisturize anytime you need to. Apply the cream after washing your hands and anytime the skin feels tight and dry.

Make Sure Your Lips Are Protected Too

Your lips are covered in very thin skin and the cold and wind that often arises in the summer can make them dry, flaky and cracked. Make sure you exfoliate your lips on a regular basis and apply lip balm often throughout the day. There’s no reason why your lips have to the pay the price just because it’s fall.

Resist Taking Really Hot Showers

When the temperature dips, it can be super tempting to take hot showers to warm up at the end of the day or when you get up in the morning. Water that is too hot sucks the moisture out of your skin, leaving it dry and flaky. Take warm showers, but not too hot.

Make an Appointment to See Your Dermatologist

Most women should see their dermatologist at least once a year for an annual skin cancer check. I like to make my yearly exam in the winter so I can also discuss any cold weather issues that I’m having. If your skin tends to suffer in the fall and winter, make it a point to see your derm during those months.
