Create a Proper, Easy-to-follow Skin Routine (doesn’t Have to Be Daily)

I know, I know. You're probably rolling your eyes and thinking “Yeah… I’ve tried that!” But let me ask you something: have you ever stuck with one for more than a month? If you have, then you probably understand why I am suggesting this. A consistent hydrating routine will transform your skin from feeling like a tundra to looking like a natural highlighter!
Here’s my suggestion for a weekly routine:
- Start off with a scrub (my favourite is the Olhenriksen one).
- Go in straight after with a mask but don’t leave it on for too long (I use the Origins active charcoal).

- Continue with a daily moisturizer (I suggest either the Kiehl's daily moisturizer or the Infinite Aloe Skin Care cream).

- At night, apply a night cream right before bed (maybe give the Aveeno Night Cream a go, I personally swear by it!).

Give Yourself the Maximum Amount of Makeup-free Days

It’s totally okay to go out with no makeup once in a while. In fact, it is suggested for those with really dry skin. When you put makeup on, it clogs your pores and that stops your skin from absorbing moisture. Also, have you ever noticed your skin gets really itchy after removing your makeup? Well, that’s because what they use in makeup wipes actually does the job of removing the makeup but it also dries out your skin. So the best alternative is to give yourself a minimum of 2-3 days of a fresh I-woke-up-like-this face!

3

Transition Away from Makeup Wipes

If you use makeup wipes, try moving away from them. They dry your skin and leave you feeling like your face is about to peel off. Try going for alternatives like face washes or oil-based makeup removers.

4

Tone Your Beautiful Face!

They usually come bottled, so you’ll need to use cotton pads or you can use your hands if you prefer. Even though you may not be seeing immediate results, it will balance out the ph levels in your facial skin leaving it less dry in the long run.

5

Stay Away from Powder Makeup

Just like any powder, powdered makeup tends to soak the moisture out of your face. If you want to keep away from having dry patches of skin, start cutting out powders from your daily makeup routine. Creme blushes and highlighters are a great alternative for the classic blush and highlight palettes. Same goes for eyeshadows: why not go for shadow sticks instead?

Try Aveeno Eczema

Ok, so this is a total life hack! Don’t be fooled by the name. This cream works magic! Got a party to go to tomorrow and your face couldn’t be drier? Put it on overnight and your skin will feel like a baby’s bum. It is originally meant for the body but using it on the face causes no harm as long as it does not make its way into your mouth or eyes. Aveeno is the most promising product for dry skin out there and this one is just amazing for those emergency moments.

7

Go See a Dermatologist

This is so important because dry skin isn’t always just dry skin. It could be an array of medical issues. Maybe it’s eczema, maybe it’s a lack of vitamins. Just to be on the safe side, try getting an appointment with a dermatologist or even your family doctor.

8

Drink More Water

This one is a given and I’m sure I’m not the first to tell you this. What I mean though is not just to try and get to a minimum of 7 cups of water a day. I am suggesting that you try and aim for a full 2 liters of water a day. Yes, this may seem like a whole lot of water but your body needs it. It’s like a thirsty plant - it gets dry and will restore itself when water comes flowing in. Your skin will do the same.

9

Carry a Hydrating Mist

I have been recently introduced to hydrating mists and can I just say that they are a lifesaver. If you are on the go for most of the day, whether it is for school or work, you may not have all the time in the world to stop and reapply cream throughout the day. This is the perfect substitute! Just a few spritzes all over your face and voila! You will feel just as fresh as when you first left the house.

10

Pay Attention to Your Detergent

It is really uncomfortable when you get those sudden itches around your body and you don’t know why. It could very well be your detergent. You might want to invest in some more delicate ones like those for babies. They have fewer irritating chemicals and are so much softer and gentler on the skin. And it’s a total bonus that they smell so good!
