Let These Skin Supplements Work Their Magic on Your Skin ...

By Eliza

When it comes to your health and beauty, skin supplements are something you definitely want to consider. It’s true that what you eat plays a role in your overall health and appearance, but sometimes it’s hard to be sure you’re getting enough of everything. I know it’s not always easy to eat all the right foods and stay away from the not so healthy ones. When that happens, skin supplements can fill in the gaps and make sure you’re getting what you need for the most fabulous skin possible. Of course, it’s always a good idea to talk to your doctor before taking any new supplements.

1

Vitamin C

You’ve probably heard of loading up on vitamin C when you feel a cold coming on, but it’s also one of the best skin supplements out there. That’s because vitamin C is an antioxidant that fights the free radical damage that can lead to fine lines, wrinkles and the cellular changes that lead to skin cancer. In addition, doctors at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine say that vitamin C can also reverse the signs of aging and might even offer sun protection (though not as a replacement for sunscreen).

2

Vitamin a

Much like vitamin C, vitamin A is an antioxidant. It appears in a wide range of topical skincare treatments, but works wonders when you take it internally too. Fruits and vegetables are a prime source of the nutrient, but a vitamin A supplement is also beneficial for many people. It helps combat wrinkles, not to mention all of its other health benefits.

3

Fern Extract

You wouldn’t just start munching down on a fern plant, but research out of the University of Miami School of Medicine says that the extract from the plants can be healthy for your skin. The study found that taking fern extract reduced the incidence of wrinkles and brown spots as a result of sun damage. The antioxidants in the extract are to thank for this great sun protection supplement.

4

Coenzyme Q10

According to medical experts, this supplement protects your skin from the inside out by helping cells grow and protecting them from the changes that can lead to skin cancer. Popping a Coenzyme Q10 supplement boosts cell health and helps fight the signs of aging as you get older. It might also protect you from developing melanoma or one of the other types of skin cancer.

5

Vitamin E

Vitamin E might be one of the most potent supplements you can take for your skin. Like vitamins E and A, it’s an antioxidant so it offers those benefits, but it does even more. Vitamin E helps your skin retain its moisture so it always looks young, fresh and radiant. Some research also says that vitamin E can combat sun damage. It’s not abundant in as many foods as other vitamins are, so it might pay to pop a supplement each day to cover your daily intake recommendations.

Idebenone

This is probably one you’ve never heard of. Trust me, it’s not that well known. However, idebenone is a little known antioxidant that experts at the Eastern Virginia Medical School tout as one that is very small, which means it can get deep into your skin, reversing and preventing damage that is way down there

7

Selenium

Selenium is a mineral your body needs, but not in large amounts. However, just because your quota is small doesn’t mean that a deficiency won’t be a problem. Selenium works to reverse discolored skin and wrinkles that crop up as you age. It also has protection benefits when it comes to skin cancer and sun damage.

Do you take any of these supplements? I can’t stress enough how important it is to talk to your doctor before taking anything because some of them can interfere with the effectiveness of certain medications. Do you plan to give your dermatologist or physician a call and try one of these?
