Every girls needs tips for maintaining healthy lips. Are you the kind of person who has dozens of different products all related to the health and wellbeing of your skin, but for some reason always forgets to pay as much attention to your lips?

That doesn’t make any sense! Our lips are the central feature of our face. We talk, eat and kiss with them, so they need to be in as great a condition as possible. Because we use them so much, lips do have a tendency to become dry, chapped and even flaky over time, and this can be both unattractive and painful. In order to avoid this from happening to your own lips, here are five easy tips for maintaining healthy lips.

1

Stay Hydrated

Being fully hydrated at all times is one of the easiest tips for maintaining healthy lips. If you don’t drink enough water, your lips will stop feeling plump and soft and are much more likely to be dry and chapped. I find that the classic recommendation of eight glasses of water spread out through the day is still a solid rule to live by. You will definitely notice a difference in the look and feel of your lips!

2

Good Quality Lip Balm

It can be tempting to pick up a stick of really cheap balm to apply to your lips, mostly because they always seem to be up there right by the store counter, but it is really is worth investing in a slightly more expensive, better quality product. Moisturising agents like beeswax, coconut oil, jojoba oil and shea butter are all ingredients that can be found in more established lip balm brands, and they all work wonders for keeping your lips supple on the outside.

3

Hydrating Lipstick

One of the negative factors of wearing some lipsticks, especially budget ones, is that they have a tendency to completely dry out your lips. You can combat this by wearing lipstick that is hydrating. Things like liquid lipsticks and matte finish products should be used sparingly because they make skin flaky. Specific hydrating lipsticks are filled with all of the good stuff I’ve already mentioned, like coconut and jojoba oil and vitamin E.

4

Sunscreen

To preserve the long term health of your lips, you should always remember to apply sunscreen to them. You apply it to the rest of your face, so why skip your lips? There are even dedicated balms and other specific lip products designed to be used on your lips only.

5

Exfoliate

Another great tip is to remember to exfoliate your lip area every now and then. It’s important not to do this all the time because it could have an abrasive effect, but as part of your wider beauty routine, using a lip polish scrub every now and then can remove dead cells and promote blood flow for a fuller look.

It's important to take care of your lips all year round so that you never have to deal with dryness when it's hot or cold.
