7 Things to Know about Cotton Infused Skincare Products ...

By Eliza

Cotton infused skincare products are cropping up all over the place these days, so it pays to understand what they’re all about so you can make the right choice for your skin. The best way to know what’s in your skincare products is to read the ingredients label carefully. That way you can avoid items that have ingredients you don’t want on your skin and opt for the lotions, creams, cleansers and serums loaded with the ones you do want. For now, read through these facts about cotton infused skincare products, but talk to your dermatologist before switching to a new skincare routine.

1. High in Vitamin E

According to experts, cotton infused skincare products are high in vitamin E. That’s good news because your skin relies on the nutrient to stay healthy and functioning. Vitamin E helps fight inflammation, which can battle redness on your skin and soothe it at the same time. If you suffer from such an issue, choosing a skincare product that contains cotton might help.

2. It’s Probably Cottonseed Oil

When you see cotton in a skincare item, it’s likely the cottonseed oil and not the actual cotton that’s being used. After all, it’s probably not that easy to get cotton crammed into a bottle of lotion and still make it effective. The great thing about cottonseed oil is that it has skin benefits, but can also be mixed with other beneficial oils to create skincare products that are just right for a wide range of skin types, note the dermatology experts at Mt. Sinai Medical Center.

3. Contains Antioxidants

Cottonseed oil is loaded with antioxidants, which are nutrients that fight free radical damage. They can ward off the signs of aging in addition to combating a range of health issues, including cancer. So each time you slather it on your skin, you’re effectively keeping it looking fresh, young and radiant. And you can’t beat that!

4. It’s Hydrating

No one wants to battle dry skin, right? Well, it turns out that cotton infused skincare products might help. Reports show that they can help keep skin hydrated and healthy. Of course, many other ingredients do that same job, so it’s up to you to decide which ones you want to try and which ones you’d rather avoid.

5. Smooths Skin

Reports from skincare experts say that using skincare infused products can help smooth tough, rough skin. If you’re at all like me and have these skin issues in certain spots on your body, you might find the relief you’ve been craving by giving cottonseed oil a try. Look for it in soap or lotion for the best benefits.

6. Contains Pesticides

OK, now for the not-so-good. Despite all the benefits of cotton in skincare products, some people report skin irritation after use because cotton is a plant product that is heavily treated with pesticides in most parts of the country. Go ahead and give it a try, but if you notice that it doesn’t help or causes skin issues, stop using it and talk to your dermatologist.

7. Spoils Quickly

It won’t go bad overnight or anything, but cottonseed oil doesn’t have as long of a shelf life as other oils. That means you will have to use up your products in a timely manner or wind up throwing them away. Look for products that contain a small percentage of cottonseed oil and be sure to pay close attention to the expiration date, if there is one.

Have you ever used cotton on your skin? I have yet to give it a try, but I totally plan on it, once cotton infused skincare products are more readily available. Do you have any other info to share?
