1. White Bread

Did you think white bread would make this list of worst foods for skin? High glycemic foods like white bread, potatoes, and highly processed snacks aren’t just bad for those trying to lose weight. They've been linked to an increase in acne! To avoid acne breakouts and keep blood sugar regulated, stick to low GI and unprocessed foods like whole wheat, beans and veggies!

2. Salt

Salt isn’t exactly food but it’s in many of the bad foods for skin. We all know that salt can cause us to retain water in our bodies and it can do the same to our faces. Too much salt in our diet can cause our faces to swell and look puffy. So don’t get too comfy with that salt shaker and rinse off canned foods before consuming to reduce extra salt in your diet!

3. Dairy

Dairy, and in this case, milk, might not be a beneficial food for skin like we originally thought. While milk can offer us a lot of great benefits but there is some research that shows a correlation between the consumption of milk and the occurrence of acne. If you have acne, try taking a break from milk for a bit to see if you see a difference. It might not cure acne but it can help!

4. Alcohol

Alcohol might not be considered food, but it still belongs on this list of bad foods for skin! Drinking regularly in large quantities can take a toll on your skin by making it look dull and dehydrated. It also causes the blood vessels in our faces to dilate. Keep your skin looking youthful and supple by keeping cocktails to a minimum.

5. Candy

I have a huge sweet tooth so it was quite devastating for me to find out that sugar was one of the worst foods for skin! Excess sugar can actually cause sagging skin, deep wrinkles and dull skin by damaging the elastin and collagen in our skin. To avoid accelerated aging and keep blood sugar levels balanced, limit sweets to occasional treats and cravings should decrease with time!

6. Fried Food and Trans Fats

Many people have already associated fried, greasy food and hydrogenated oils as the worst foods for your skin and it’s true! Eating fried foods and foods that contain trans fats have fractioned oils that are highly processed and can lead to premature aging. They can also cause poor circulation, bacteria build-up and clogged pores, which lead to acne.

7. Processed Meat

I think it’s safe to say that a can of Spam or a hot dog isn’t going to do squat for us and that it’s a damaging food for skin and our bodies! Processed meats are packed with salt, preservatives, saturated fats and nitrates-all which can cause various issues with our skin. We can still enjoy meat, just go for the leaner and less chemically-laden variety like chicken and fish!

These seven worst foods for skin can all cause trouble for our complexions, so ensure that they only make the occasional appearance in your diet. Wholesome, unprocessed foods and water are always a sure bet so feel free to get your fill of fresh foods! Have you ever abstained from eating a certain food for your skin’s sake? What are your favorite foods for healthy skin?
