There’s really nothing worse than having a breakout, right? You probably know that eating a lot of junk food and not washing your skin on a regular basis can lead to acne, but there are some other sneaky reasons your acne is acting up. Once you know what’s leading to your breakouts, you can take steps to make sure that they go away and never come back. Wondering what could be causing your zits? It could be one of these things.
1. You’re Using the Wrong Sunscreen
You might think that sunscreen is sunscreen, but that’s simply not the case. Traditional sunscreen is designed for your body, not your face. That means you shouldn’t be using the same product that you use on your arms and legs on your face or you run the risk of a breakout. Instead, look for a product designed for the thinner, more delicate skin on your face. Then wear it every day to ward of wrinkles and sunburn.
2. Blame Your Conditioner
Even when you rinse your conditioner out, some of it might linger behind and give you pimples. If you are prone to acne, you should read the ingredients labels carefully to be sure you are avoiding ingredients that could lead to zits. That includes things like beeswax, lanolin or oils. These items can clog your pores, which leads to breakouts.
3. Maybe You Don’t Rinse Well Enough
Kudos for washing your face every day because that’s a great first step for clearing your skin. However, if you don’t rinse properly, you aren’t doing yourself any favors. When you cleanse your facial skin, be sure you rinse extra well to get all of the product off your skin so that it doesn’t clog your pores and give you pimples.
4. It Might Be Time to do the Laundry
Life gets busy and sometimes certain chores fall by the wayside. You shouldn’t let your sheets go for too long though because dirty pillowcases can lead to zits. Ideally, you should be washing your pillowcases at least once a week with hot water and gentle laundry detergent. Make this a habit and you might notice clearer skin in just a few weeks.
5. Your Bangs Could Be the Issue
If you use any sort of product to keep your bangs in place, you could be transferring those products to your skin, causing blocked pores and acne. At the same time, adjusting your bangs with dirty fingers can make the situation even worse. Make sure you choose your hair products wisely and once you fix your style, leave it alone.
6. Do You Travel a Lot?
If you have to take an airplane often for work or you work on one, you might be able to blame that for your acne. Experts say that the dry cabin air can really suck the moisture from your skin, which can cause breakouts in some cases. If you spend a lot of time on an airplane, be sure you are moisturizing on a regular basis.
7. You’ve Got to Clean Your Yoga Mat
Think about where you put your yoga mat. The floor at the studio, the back of your car, maybe even the gym bag you carry around. All of those locations are full of bacteria and germs that will get on your yoga mat. Next time your face touches the mat, that junk transfers to your skin and you have a breakout. Disinfect your yoga mat after every use to prevent this issue.
Which of these things might be causing your acne?
