What's in Your Lip Balm ?

There are some ingredients that should be in your lip balm. It is something that most of us girls around the world use on a daily basis, but it is also something that, to be honest, none of us really think much about! The biggest opinion and most knowledge a person has about their lip balm is what kind of flavour they like best and what kind of price they like to pay, and that’s about it. Have you ever taken a second to sit and consider what might actually be in your lip balm? After all, it is something that you apply to an important part of your body every single day, so it makes sense that you should be more clued up about it than perhaps you are right now! Time to get educated. Here are four ingredients that should be in your lip balm, to ensure maximum hydration and protection.

1

Hyaluronic Acid

This is the ingredient in lip balm that will ensure your moisture levels are well balanced, rather than just having a level of hydration on the surface of the lip doesn’t permeate. It’s kind of a stunning fact, but hyaluronic acid can increase moisture in a product by 1000 times its weight in water! Not only does it attract moisture, but it also seals it in and makes for a longer lasting product between applications. This is one of the most important ingredients that should be in your lip balm.

2

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an essential ingredient in lip balm because it is so good for healing cracks and soothing rough patches on your skin, whilst also reducing flakiness and dryness. That is essentially exactly what a lip balm is designed to do! The good thing about vitamin E is that it is gentle enough to use on active wounds, so those who suffer from things like cold sores can apply it without having to worry.

3

Beeswax

Beeswax is another popular ingredient in many lip balms, thanks to its ability to create a really silky finish on the lip, as well as its ability to really hold in the moisture that you get from the initial application. It’s probably one of the best natural beauty ingredients out there!

4

SPF

SPF is essential for something as delicate as your lips, even in the winter months when you aren’t necessarily paying attention to the sun! Rays don’t only damage you when the temperature is hot, it can happen all year round, and a balm that has even a tiny SPF factor will work to protect your lips from aging and damage.
