Retinoids

Stretch marks have to be one of the top post-pregnancy skin concerns of women everywhere. While there are no magical body lotions to help prevent or fade stretch marks from a pregnancy, you can consult your doctor about a prescription retinoid or laser treatment to help improve the appearance of stretch marks. Also note that sometimes stretch marks can diminish after a few months post-pregnancy so make sure you give it a few months before you see your doc!

Products for Sensitive Skin

When you’re thinking about skin care after the baby, consider switching your regular skin care products to those suited for more sensitive skin. Why, you ask? Well, some ladies experience dermatitis on their face which are red, flaky patches on the face due to fluctuating hormones. A quick OTC remedy is to use anti-inflammatory and hydrating products like Cetaphil to baby your post-baby skin.

Tea Bags

Poor circulation, fatigue, those damned hormones and leftover fluids from can all cause your eyes to swell and cause discoloration.Choose eye creams that contain peptides to help fight those dark or swollen eyes and hydrate them. You can also use cold compresses and cool tea bags to depuff your eyes and reduce swelling.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen should be part of both your pre and post-baby skin care routine. Sunscreen can shield your skin from getting burned and protect it from sun damage but it also helps with melasma. In case you aren’t familiar with melasma which is also called the mask of pregnancy, it causes irregular patches of skin discoloration on areas of your skin that are exposed to the sun. Some people find that the discoloration fades but you can always see your doctor for lightening cream in addition to using sunscreen.

Benzoyl Peroxide

Post-pregnancy skin issues can include acne. If you’re worried about taking certain acne fighting medications while breastfeeding, make sure you consult your doctor. Topical creams that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid are usually recommended as they aren’t absorbed through the skin. You can also try a skin-balancing cleanser or a mask to disinfect your skin. There are also some safe oral medications that you can use also just be sure to ask your doctor first to be safe!

Concealer

Concealer is another fab tool to have on your side for skin care after pregnancy. Spider angiomas are a common post-baby skin issue that causes blood vessels to enlarge and leave red marks on your face. While some ladies find that their marks went away after pregnancy, others aren’t so lucky. If you’re up to getting laser treatment, that’s one way to get rid of these spider-like marks. If not, go for a high-quality concealer that will camouflage those dilated blood vessels.

Exfoliator

Post-pregnancy skin care will also benefit from an exfoliator to slough off dead skin cells, reveal fresh skin and help your skin deal with hyperpigmentation from melasma.
