Babying your skin is always a good idea, but there are some times when it’s even more important. Taking good care of your skin means it’s always healthy, radiant and looking young and fresh. That involves cleansing, moisturizing and using products that are meant for your skin type. If you have persistent problems, be sure to see your dermatologist for treatment. In the meantime, here are some important times when you should baby your skin.

Winter

If you live in a place where the temperature gets really cold or it gets windy, it’s important to take extra good care of your skin. That’s because the cold and wind can dry it out and leave it chapped, red and raw. If you’re going to be outdoors, wear an emollient product, which protects exposed skin from the elements.

2

Pregnancy

Obviously, when you’re pregnant your skin is going to stretch as you gain weight. While there’s no way to get around stretch marks, you can baby your skin by applying a thick cream with shea butter or vitamin E oil. This will help keep your skin moisturized so that it holds up better to the demands of stretching. Your hormones can also leave you with acne, so be sure you’re cleansing appropriately.

3

Young Adulthood

Sorry, but acne doesn’t always take a hike just because you aren’t a teenager anymore. In fact, many people suffer from breakouts and blemishes for many years into their 20s and even their 30s. So, just because you’ve turned 20 doesn’t mean you should stop taking care of your acne prone skin.

4

That Time of the Month

You can blame hormones again. The fluctuations in your hormones can lead to breakouts, so it’s important to be ready each month when your period is set to arrive. Be vigilant about washing and moisturizing. You might also talk to your doctor about specific treatments, especially if you have serious acne that occurs with your cycle.

5

After a Breakup

All that crying is bound to leave you looking red, puffy and blotchy, but the stress caused by a breakup can also lead to breakouts. If you’ve just broken it off with someone, try some relaxation methods to help your skin. Take a warm bath and then baby your skin afterward with a great smelling lotion and some cozy pajamas.

When Work Gets Hard

Again, being stressed out isn’t good for your skin. Though the evidence is mixed, some experts say that being under stress can cause acne and blemishes. First, take a deep breath. Then baby your skin by booking a facial at your favorite spa or going home after a long day and doing a scrub and mask while you watch television. Easy enough, right?

7

In the Summertime

Much like winter can cause skin woes, summer can do the same, but for the opposite reason. When it’s hot outside and you sweat a lot, you are losing vital moisture that your skin needs. Without it, you’ll look dull and might even have issues with dryness, flaking and itching. When the mercury rises, be sure you’re using a good cream or lotion to lock that moisture in. Also, be sure to guzzle plenty of water during the day.

How do you baby your skin? When do you feel like your skin needs the most tender loving care.
