No one wants dull, blemished complexion, so putting together a routine of healthy things to do for great skin is an easy way to be sure you look your best at all times. Proper skin care doesn’t have to be hard or time-consuming, but you’ll love the results you get by making an effort to care for your skin. Check out these easy things to do for great skin and you’ll be a true believer.
Applying lotion daily is one of the best things to do for great skin. It leaves your body moisturized, soft and healthy. The ideal time to put lotion on is right after a shower because damp skin absorbs the lotion better and locks in the moisture. Use body lotion everywhere but your face. Choose a special cream designed for facial skin and apply it before you go to bed at night. For the daytime an SPF cream is the best choice.
2. Wear Sunscreen
Skin cancer is a very real danger and young women are just as much at risk as older ladies. The risk goes up if you tan or spend a lot of time outside without sunscreen. Wear facial products, such as lotion and foundation, with SPF, which is an easy way to cover exposed skin on your face. Anytime you spend time outside, apply sunscreen to any exposed skin on the rest of your body. Don’t forget the tops of your ears and between your toes.
3. Remove Make up at Night
I know full well how a long busy day can leave you flopping into bed and crashing out without taking off your makeup. Slipping up once in a while is probably no big deal, but sleeping in makeup on a regular basis can result in acne and blemishes that I know you don’t want to deal with. Take a couple of minutes to clean and moisturize your face each and every night.
4. Use a Light Hand
The skin on your face is very thin and much more delicate than the skin on the rest of your body. It’s important to use a light touch when applying face creams and makeup, especially under your eyes. Your middle finger is a great one to use because it’s naturally gentler than your other fingers. Don’t press or pull on your skin either, which can break down collagen and leave you with sagging skin and wrinkles. That’s scary enough for me!
5. Eat a Healthy Diet
A well-balanced diet is an easy way to care for your skin. Protein plays a role in healthy skin function and appearance. Choose lean protein foods to keep your fat and calorie intake under control. Lean meats, low-fat dairy foods, nuts, seeds and beans are great options. Vitamin E is also important for healthy skin and avocados are a great source of the nutrient. In general, a varied and healthy diet is the best way to ensure that you’re getting the vitamins and minerals you need for outstanding skin.
6. Don’t Smoke
Even the occasional social cigarette can wreak havoc on your skin. The repetitive motions of smoking can leave you with deep lines on your face and the chemicals they contain can speed up aging. If that’s not enough to scare you, cigarettes can also cause cancer. If you need help quitting, talk to your doctor about prescription methods that can help.
7. See Your Dermatologist
Also known as a skin doctor, a dermatologist can detect and treat skin conditions that range from a weird rash to melanoma. Make an appointment to see your dermatologist at least once per year, sometimes more if you have a skin problem or are risk of skin cancer. If you ever notice any strange skin changes, alert your dermatologist right away.
