Reasons to Consider for Why Your Acne Keeps Coming Back ...

Having acne can be miserable, and what is even more miserable is when your acne keeps coming back. I am very happy that I no longer have acne problems, but when I was in junior high I had terrible acne that would clear up for brief period before returning with a vengeance. Once I figured out why my acne kept returning, I was able to take steps to fix the problem. Luckily, there are some very simple things you can do to clear up blemished skin if your acne keeps coming back. All you have to do is see if any one of the following things could be causing your breakouts and remove or fix the offending problem.

Irritating Makeup

I love wearing makeup, and I especially loved wearing it when I had acne problems. It covered up all of the unsightly zits. Needless to say, I was very upset when I learned that my makeup was one of the culprits for my constant breakouts. There are certain makeup ingredients that can be very irritating to skin, and these ingredients could be the reason your acne keeps coming back. Makeup that contains artificial colors and artificial fragrance can make your acne flare. Other ingredients such as lanolin, mineral oil, petroleum, and isopropyl myristate can also contribute to breakouts. If you suspect your makeup is causing a problem, read the ingredient list and see if one of these ingredients are included. If they are, you might want to consider switching to non-comedogenic makeup, like mineral foundation, which won’t clog pores.

Over Drying Face

When you have acne, it can be very tempting to use as many products as possible to dry the oil on your face. However, this actually causes more problems. Drying out your face will cause your skin to produce more oil as the skin tries to balance itself out. Instead of using products to dry out your skin, stick to gentle cleansers and oil free moisturizer. If you need to blot excess oil during the day, just use some oil blotting sheets. These were my best friend in junior high.

3

Touching Your Face

You can get acne by touching your face with your hands or various objects like cell phones. Touching your face exposes you skin to bacteria, which makes you much more likely to break out. This is actually one of the easiest causes of acne to fix. All you have to do is stop touching your face and make sure you clean your cell phone at the end of every day. Doing both of these things will help you prevent bacteria from entering your pores and causing acne.

Dirty Sheets

Dirty sheets and dirty pillow cases are surprisingly common causes of acne. You bedding has dead skin cells and bacteria that builds up from sleeping on it, which will lead to more frequent breakouts. To avoid breakouts caused by your bedding, change your sheets once a week. Also, you should change your pillow case once or twice during the week. In addition to changing your bedding often, you may want to consider using a hypoallergenic laundry detergent that is dye and fragrance free. When I was having breakouts my doctor recommended changing my pillow case every other night, which helped my acne clear up almost immediately! I was so grateful to my doctor for recommending such a simple solution.

Hair Products

You may not think that the products you use on your hair can cause acne, but they can. Your hair touches your face throughout the day, and when you wash your hair, the suds get on your face. Just like makeup, there are certain ingredients in hair products that are irritating. Irritating ingredients include silicones, plasticizers, and oil, which can all clog pores. If you suspect your hair products are causing problems, look for very gentle shampoo and conditioner. To be honest, I have even used baby shampoo on occasion. It is extremely gentle and not irritating at all.

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

Dirty Makeup Applicators

Dirty makeup applicators are a huge cause of acne. They harbor a lot of bacteria. To keep your acne from returning, you will want to make sure you clean your makeup brushes once a week. Just use a gentle shampoo to clean them and let them dry standing up so the bristles don’t get smashed. For those of you who use makeup sponges, remember that they are disposable. You should use a new one after a few uses.

7

Diet

If after changing all of these things your acne still keeps coming back, you may want to look at your diet. Sugar and refined starches are known to cause acne. White bread, pasta, fried foods, cookies, and cakes can all be contributing to your acne. Another common cause is dairy. Dairy is very mucus forming, which can lead to frequent breakouts. Removing these foods and staying well hydrated could help you clear up your acne once and for all.

I hated having acne in junior high. I always felt like there was a giant spot light on my face, although, I probably noticed my acne more than anyone else did. Thankfully, when I removed my problematic makeup and started changing my pillowcases frequently, my acne started to clear up, and yours may too. It certainly never hurts to try. Do you have frequent breakouts that you find annoying?
