Moisturizing your skin is a necessary part of any good skincare routine. Lotion helps keep your entire body hydrated so it looks and feels young and beautiful. If you are leery of some of the ingredients in the creams you can buy at drugstores, you always have the option of whipping up a batch of your own homemade lotion. Try one of these recipes and get ready for the best skin of your life.
1. Basic Homemade Lotion
This is a great recipe to start out with because the ingredients are fairly easy to find and the directions are easy to follow. Once you get the technique down, you can try other things to create your own personal blend.
½ cup almond oil
¼ cup coconut oil
¼ cup beeswax
1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
2 tablespoons cocoa butter
Place the ingredients in a jar. Put the jar in a pan with a couple inches of water and heat over medium. When the ingredients melt, shake the jar to combine them. Pour into a pump bottle.
2. Aloe Vera Lotion
Aloe vera is very soothing for the skin and is great for chapped, dry or burned skin on any part of your body. You will love how pampered this recipe makes you feel.
1 cup pure aloe vera gel
½ cup beeswax, grated
½ cup almond oil
1 teaspoons vitamin E oil
15 drops essential oil of your choice
Place the aloe vera gel, vitamin E oil and essential oils in a bowl and allow to come to room temperature. Melt the beeswax and almond oil in a measuring cup placed into a saucepan of water. Pour into the blender and allow to cool, but remain soft. Turn the blender to low, remove the top and slowly add the aloe vera mixture. Transfer to a jar and refrigerate.
3. Sunscreen Lotion

4. Non-Greasy Lotion
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want a cream that makes me feel oily or greasy. I prefer a lotion that will soak in and that doesn’t make my clothes all greasy either. If you feel the same way, this is the lotion recipe for you.
½ cup shea butter
1 tablespoon almond oil
1 tablespoon jojoba oil
10 to 15 drops essential oil
Melt the shea butter and oils (but not the essential oils) together in a double boiler. Cool in the refrigerator for 10 to 15 minutes. Now add the essential oils and mix until creamy. Transfer to a jar.
5. Bronzing Caffeine Lotion Bars
This lotion comes in bar form and will give you a healthy bronzed glow while also refreshing and revitalizing the skin all over your body.
¼ cup cocoa butter
¼ cup coconut oil infused with coffee
1 tablespoon beeswax
½ teaspoon cocoa powder
½ teaspoon cornstarch
Place the cocoa butter, coconut oil and beeswax in a double boiler and melt together. Remove from the heat and add the cocoa powder, cornstarch and cinnamon. Pour into a mold or ice cube tray and allow to harden. Store the bars in an airtight container or jar with a tight fitting lid.
