Hyperpigmentation is caused by increased melanin from sun damage, injuries or skin conditions. And while it’s usually not dangerous, it can be bothersome so I’ve found 8 wonderful ways to hide and treat pigmentation and let your true beauty shine through!
1. Prevent It
When we’re talking about covering up skin imperfections, specifically hyperpigmentation, we have to talk about preventing it! Even though hyperpigmentation can occur due to a variety of reasons, we can be proactive about preventing pigmentation from sun damage by using a broad spectrum sunblock! Make sunscreen part of your beauty routine and don’t ever leave home without it!
2. Conceal It
Using concealer is an inexpensive and easy way to cover up pigmentation at home. If you already have a full-coverage concealer in your bag o’ makeup, you’re already ahead of the game! But one thing to keep in mind is that even though your current concealer works great for covering up zits, it might not be as awesome for covering up pigmentation. So, you might have to experiment with different concealers before you find one that works best for you.
3. Cover It
One of the newer ways to cover up pigmentation is to enlist the help of a 2-in-1 product that offers full coverage foundation and also doubles as a concealer. Check out products from brands like Dermablend, which offers products according to skin condition. 4. Lighten It
Using a skin bleaching cream might sound scary but it’s another one of the ways to cover up pigmentation or in this case, lighten it. If the discoloration on your skin is pretty new, a lightening or bleaching cream can help fade these spots and make them much less noticeable! Look for OTC lighteners that contain botanical ingredients like bearberry or coffeeberry extract.
5. Correct It
Corrective primers and concealers offer us ways to cover up pigmentation by neutralizing the imperfection with the contrasting color on the color wheel. If you’ve ever seen a concealer palette with green or lavender and wondered what it was for, now you know! It might seem weird to apply a colored concealer or primer, but for certain skin imperfections, colored correctors work better than the flesh-toned type!
6. Lubricate It
Another one of the ways to cover up pigmentation by improving the condition of your skin is by treating it with Rosehip oil. Rosehip oil has been known to increase the elasticity of your skin, thereby improving the texture, and it’s an all-natural way to fade dark spots and scars! Rosehip oil won’t cause skin to peel or make your skin sensitive to the sun so it’s a fabulous all-natural oil!
7. Spot Treat It
Try using spot correcting skin care products as a way of covering up skin imperfections. 8. Mask It
A cheap and easy way to cover up pigmentation by treating your skin is to make an at-home skin lightening mask. Grab four almonds and soak them in water overnight until you’re ready to use them. The next day, grind the almonds with some milk to make a paste and apply it on the areas you have hyperpigmentation. You can use this mask overnight or just until it dries and rinse off with cold water!
