7 Foods to Eat for Hydrated Skin ...

The cold winter air may have left your skin feeling very dry, but instead of using moisturizer you can focus on certain foods to eat for hydrated skin. Although moisturizer makes your skin feel hydrated after being out in the chill of winter, it can actually leave your skin more dried out. Many moisturizers contain synthetic ingredients that sit on the surface of your skin, but don’t actually hydrate it. As a result, you will continually feel like you need moisturizer. For truly moisturized skin, you need to hydrate from the inside out, which begins with drinking plenty of water. However, you should also add the foods to eat for hydrated skin into your diet. When you do this, your skin will feel great!

Almonds

Almonds Because they are rich in vitamin E, almonds are one of the best foods to eat for hydrated skin. A single serving of almonds will supply you with almost half of the amount of vitamin E you need for an entire day! All of that vitamin E will do wonders for your parched skin, because it is an antioxidant that keeps skin smooth and supple. While almonds are wonderful for dry skin because of their vitamin E content, they also help with moisturizing skin because they are a source of monounsaturated fat. Believe it or not, monounsaturated fat makes up part of the membrane of your skin cells, where it helps keep moisture in. Since almonds do have a lot of monounsaturated fat, you can be sure that when you are eating them you are providing your skin with nutrients it needs to stay hydrated.

2

Walnuts

Walnuts Walnuts are another fantastic nut to eat for soft skin because they are one of the few nuts that have omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 fatty acids help the cell membranes of your skin stay flexible and fluid, which makes it easier for nutrients and fluids to enter your cells and maintain moisture levels. Omega 3 fatty acids are also very useful for hydrating skin because they have anti-inflammatory properties. When skin is inflamed it is much more likely to become dry, and the anti-inflammatory actions of the omega 3 fatty acids in walnuts can prevent this. To get all the skin hydrating benefits of walnut, you only need to eat an ounce a day.

Cucumbers

Cucumbers One of my favorite foods for hydrated skin is cucumbers. Cucumbers have a very high water content, which makes them excellent for hydration inside and out. In addition to having a high water content, cucumbers have several unique nutrients that are very beneficial for skin. Cucumbers are one of the best sources of silica, which is a mineral that increases the moisture and elasticity of the skin. They also contain caffeic acid. Caffeic acid works similarly to omega 3 fatty acids by acting as an anti-inflammatory and preventing dryness. As a side benefit, caffeic acid also decreases under eye puffiness! So, for beautiful skin, you want to be sure to eat plenty of cucumbers.

Pineapples

Pineapples Pineapples are tasty tropical fruits that contain a special enzyme called bromelain. Bromelain has the ability to break down proteins and remove toxins from the body. If your body has a buildup of toxins you can develop dry, rough skin. By removing the toxins your skin will start to look and feel much more hydrated. Bromelain also helps improve circulation, which further improves your skin’s moisture levels by allowing nutrients to reach your skin cells. Eating pineapple on a regular basis will result in beautifully hydrated skin.

5

Avocados

Avocados Like almonds, avocados are a great source of monounsaturated fat, which means they will really help your skin stay moisturized. Avocados also contain vitamin E and vitamin C. As you already know, vitamin E is a great nutrient for skin hydration. However, vitamin C is also a wonderful vitamin for skin health. Not only does vitamin C brighten skin and keep it supple, it also hydrates skin. One study found that eating foods high in vitamin C led to an increase in moisture in the skin! Knowing that avocados contain monounsaturated fat, vitamin E, and vitamin C, you can think of them as super hydrators for your skin.

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet Potatoes Sweet potatoes are surprisingly beneficial for dry skin. Sweet potatoes contain a high amount of beta carotene, which is extremely helpful for skin that is parched. Beta carotene is an antioxidant that prevents skin from becoming dry. It also fights sun damage, which can make dry skin look even worse. Aside from containing beta carotene, sweet potatoes also have vitamin A and vitamin C, which repair collagen that becomes damaged when skin is dry. To get the most benefit from sweet potatoes, you should steam them to retain as many nutrients as possible.

Leafy Green Vegetables

Leafy Green Vegetables Spinach and other leafy green vegetables are full of vitamins A, B, and E. All of these vitamins have skin hydrating benefits, which makes leafy green vegetables a great addition to your diet when you are looking to increase the moisture level of your skin. Leafy green vegetables also contain omega 3 fatty acids and phytochemicals, which are other nutrients critical for hydrated skin. I love to eat my leafy green vegetables steamed or blended in a green smoothie. Eaten this way, you will get all of the benefits of these fantastic greens.

Dry skin is an annoying problem that often occurs in the cold winter months. Since winter is on its way out the door, you are probably looking for ways to heal your damaged skin. Eating plenty of these skin hydrating foods will help nourish your skin from the inside out, and it will leave you looking beautiful! Which of these great foods are you going to add into your diet for soft skin?
