Baking Soda (not Powder)

Wash your face with warm water and your favorite cleanser. Place a small amount of baking soda in your hand, add a little water to make a paste then apply to your face. Avoid the eye area. Leave on for about 10 to 15 minutes then wash off. If this proves to be the acne recipe you have been searching for, repeat several times a week.

Make a soothing face wash with dried basil leaves. Add 3 teaspoons of the leaves to a cup of boiling water and let steep for 15 to 20 minutes. When cool, apply to face with a soft cloth or dab with cotton balls. This treatment works well after removing makeup.

Egg Whites

This is a simple and inexpensive treatment for acne providing you do not have an allergy to eggs. Separate the whites from the yolks of 2 eggs (save yolks to make another face mask or cooking or baking). Whisk egg whites until fluffy. Clean face then apply the mixture. Rinse off with warm water after about 15 minutes.

Egg Yolks

Simply whisk the egg yolks, apply to skin and wash off with warm water after 15 to 20 minutes. As with the egg whites, do not try this if you are allergic to eggs!

Mix together a small quantity of oatmeal and water and apply to face. Leave on until it dries then rinse off.

Honey is very good in healing cuts and burns and should work well on your acne and other skin blemishes. First wash your face in warm water (to open the pores) then apply the honey. Wash off the honey with warm water after 20 to 30 minutes, then splash cold water on your face (to close the pores). Weekly treatment will also improve skin dryness.

Sea Salt

Last but not least, make a mask out of sea salt, leave on for 10 to 15 minutes and rinse first in warm then in cold water. Or better still, swim in the sea!

Remember that the causes of acne and other skin problems are many and varied, so you may have to try several ‘pantry face masks’ until you find the one that’s right for you. Good luck!
