8 Easy Steps to Give Yourself a Facial ...

By Annie

Should you give yourself a facial? YES! Good make-up is nothing without a good base and we need to look after our skin, especially as we get older. We can't always afford the time or cash for regular facials but there's no reason you can’t give yourself a facial at home once a week - especially the morning after the night before you slept in your make-up! Give your skin a few extra minutes of treatment time and follow these 5 easy steps to give yourself a facial.

1

Find a Good Cleansing Oil

Cleansing oil is worth spending a bit of money on, you won't use it daily so it really lasts, and the benefits of a good oil makes all the difference. My top choices are Dermalogica Precleanse, DHC Cleansing Oil or Shu Uemura Balancing Oil – all great products to give yourself a facial.

2

Massage

Gently work your cleansing oil into your face, not forgetting your neck and under your chin, and spend a good minute or so massaging this in with your fingertips. Wet your hands to turn the oil into an emulsion and go over the face again, gently massaging all areas, especially around the T-zone, forehead and chin, rinse with warm water.

3

Cleanse Again

Pat your face dry and cleanse with your regular cleanser that suits your skin type. Again, take a minute or so to massage gently into your entire face including neck and under chin, starting at the bottom and working upwards and outwards, before rinsing clean with warm water. Take time to give yourself a facial, relax and really work the cleanser in. Facial massage stimulates circulation and is fantastic for skin firming and cell renewal.

4

Exfoliate

I can't stress the importance of using a gentle exfoliator and I highly recommend you give yourself a facial using Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. The less you use the better it works (a bottle can last 6 months) and this gentle paste works magic on all skin types.

5

Massage Again

Massage your exfoliator gently with your fingertips for about a minute. Work upwards from your neck and under your chin, up the sides of your nose & outwards over the forehead, coming down the sides of your face, being careful around the eyes. Make sure you get in all the nooks of the face, including on and around the lips, then rinse clean and pat dry. Don't forget to remove your earrings and work around the ears.

Face Mask

Your face should feel much softer and look clearer. Apply any rehydrating face mask, even if you have oily skin, and relax for 10-15 minutes- again, don't forget the neck. Remove with a warm damp muslin cloth, or flannel, softly wiping in small motions without dragging the skin. Notice how clear and glowing your skin looks and promise yourself you will give yourself a facial regularly!

7

Moisturise

Finish your DIY facial with your choice of moisturiser, or night cream, and take care doing this- after all your hard work, be gentle rubbing in! Gently dab an eye cream around your eyes, whatever your age, and enjoy a peaceful nights sleep on clean pillows.

Deep cleansing, exfoliation and hydration do wonders to condition our skin and clear our complexions. Give yourself a facial and you will really see the benefits. Do you give yourself facials at home? Do you notice results?
