Eczema Flare Ups

If you suffer from eczema, dry skin during the winter can cause your symptoms to flare. Many people experience relief from eczema symptoms during the warm months of the summer, but when the temperature dips, those issues can quickly come back. And that risk is more so if you let your skin dry out. Proper skin care can help control your eczema during the cold months of the year and prevent complications of dry skin.

2

Cracks

If you’ve ever experienced the pain of cracks that come about due to dry skin, you can join in me trying anything to make sure that it never happens again. The edges of my fingers crack big time in the winter and it hurts! Keeping your skin hydrated can combat those cracks and fissures so you don’t have so suffer for days at a time while they heal.

3

Infection

Speaking of cracked, dry skin, those cracks can lead to an infection. They leave your skin exposed to all sorts of bacteria and germs that can lead to numerous issues and icky health complications. If you do get cracks in your dry skin, make sure you keep them clean and covered as they heal up to minimize the risk of exposure. Antibiotic cream is great at killing germs and minimizing pain.

4

Itching

We all know how irritating it is to have an itch that just won’t go away. Sometimes dry skin gets tight and itchy, which is pretty uncomfortable to say the least. You can ignore the itch for a bit, but then you might give in and scratch at it. This will only exacerbate the issue and keep you itching. Plus, all that scratching can break the skin and leave you at risk of an infection. Instead, smooth some anti-itch cream or lotion over the affected area, then leave it alone.

5

Bleeding

Clearly, when your skin breaks open and cracks, there is the possibility that the area will bleed. This can get messy when it gets on your clothes or furniture. Plus, if it’s bleeding, it probably hurts and no one wants to be in pain, right? Keeping skin moist and soft prevents cracking and therefore bleeding. Easy, right?

Famous Quotes

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

Scales and Rough Patches

Ongoing dry skin that isn’t treated can leave you with scaly or rough patches. Not only do they look unattractive, but they aren’t all that comfortable and are harder to treat than dry skin as it starts. As soon as you notice dry skin, start slathering the lotion on several times every day to stave off this icky complication.

Skin Changes

Severely dry skin that isn’t treated, cracks and gets rough may mean permanent changes to your skin, say some experts. When your skin is cracked deeply or gets scaly and rough, it can leave behind scar tissue that alters your skin. So make sure you carry lotion everywhere you go.

Do you have dry skin? Me too. It always gets worse in the winter, but a good quality lotion saves me every time. How do you treat your dry skin?

Use non-fragrance soap to bath & for you laundry.

No bar soap whatsoever

One way to prevent dry skin is to use a hydrated body wash and lotion the moment you get out of shower

@Joanne, I feel your pain. I can't even wear a bathing suit or nice dresses during summer. Makes me so depress😢😢💔💔

I use vasline a lot. My doctor told me to do this, but also use really good lotions on top of this. I use a non fragrance soap also. Exfoliating helps take dry skin off. Do this a couple times a week. It will help.

I do have dry skin too, at times, it itches me, and then most often, I have cracks on my palms, and at times, my palm peels
