Oily Skin Mistakes Women Are Making Every Day ...

Oily skin is nothing to mess around with. I deal with it more when it’s hot outside, but some people suffer from oily skin all the time. If you’re one of them, chances are you would do just about anything to battle the shine. Turns out that, in addition to what you’ve heard about controlling shiny skin, there are some mistakes you might be making that could be making the issue worse. If you’re doing any of these things, it’s time to stop right now so that you never have to see a shiny face in the mirror ever again.

Washing Your Face Too Often is a Recipe for Disaster

hair, human hair color, blond, human action, face, It might sound like washing more often will get rid of the oil hanging out on your skin. The truth is that over washing your face can make the situation worse. Your face needs a certain amount of sebum to stay healthy. Washing all the time encourages your face to make more of it. If you have oily skin, wash only once or twice a day, no matter how shiny your face gets.

2

Never, Ever Skip the Moisturizer

hair, human hair color, eyebrow, face, blond, You might feel like slathering on the moisturizer only makes oily skin worse, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. When you skip moisturizer, your skin can start to dry out, which only stimulates sebum production. You should always use facial moisturizer, but look for a product that is formulated for oily skin. This should help conquer dry skin, while also battling the shine.

3

Over Exfoliating Won’t Solve the Problem Either

hair, black hair, face, person, nose, Skincare experts suggest a regular exfoliating routine to get rid of skin cells, dirt and residual product on your skin. However, exfoliating too often won’t solve the problem of oily skin. It can lead to dry skin, which heightens oil production. Instead of exfoliating every single day, try doing it only once or twice a week. You may be surprised at how much less oily your skin is.

4

Skip the Pore Strips – They Don’t Make Oily Skin Better

eyebrow, face, hair, clothing, cheek, OK, you can use pore strips from time to time, but using them too often only makes your skin produce more sebum. You definitely want to treat blackheads and clean your pores to prevent breakouts, but don’t assume that oily skin requires an increased use of pore strips. Make sure you follow the package directions regarding how often to use the strips. This will give you the best results.

5

Don’t Rinse Your Skin More than Twice

hair, human hair color, face, blond, hairstyle, Sometimes, ladies with oily skin need to rinse twice after cleansing their face. But that’s enough. You don’t want to douse your face in too much water or you’ll wind up with dry skin, which as you know from reading the previous points, increases oil production. Resist the urge to splash too much water on your face.

Avoid the Urge to Switch the Products You Use All the Time

human action, hair, person, clothing, nose, You might fall prey to the myth that switching products all the time increases the benefits they provide. That simply isn’t true. If you find products that work, stick with them. You don’t build a tolerance to products and they don’t stop working over time. If they work, keep right on using them.

7

Caking on the Make-up is Never the Answer

hair, human action, face, person, nose, You might be tempted to press on powder several times a day to help soak up the grease. This doesn’t really work. In fact, it only ends up caking on your face and making the problem look worse. You can definitely wear make-up if you have oily skin, but look for products that are made for oily skin so they look good when you wear them.

Do you have oily skin? How do you control the problem?

Ladies I recently bought Maybelline's Fit Me Matte+Poreless liquid foundation & the Fit Me powder!! This really does do the job!! The liquid mattifies almost instantly and the powder is the perfect touch to having an airbrushed look really!! This is specifically formulated for normal to oily skin!! It also helps to refine pores! As far as my skin routine goes I use my Mary Kay timewise 3-in-1 cleanser and age fighting moisturizer together!! It's a must day and night and I also use the day solution sunscreen the with spf 35 & the night solution which helps with tightening the skin during your beauty sleep!! I have found that this combo absolutely has helped in minimizing my shiny and oily problems to the T!! I have noticed because I work in fast food and my face can great really bad!! So I recommend those things!! Oh and another thing I NEVER wear makeup to work!! Gotta leave my face a break!! Hope this helps!!

when you use a public restroom, always blot your face with a toilet seat cover before using it! the non smooth side picks up oil

Estée Lauder double wear is the best foundation I have found for oily skin. I usually still have you touch up with powder at lunch though.Hope this helps someone!

yes I have oily skin. it's really gross honestly but a few tips I've already done correctly and still are. the way I control it is to not touch my face. but I always do that and it's a bad habit. I have to control myself. when I wake up I wash my face. and right before I go to bed I wash my face. only those two times. I get tempted to wash my face in the middle of the day because of how oily it already is, but I buy oil observing sheets and it helps a lot.

Only my T-zone gets oily. I actually add oil, in the forms of coconut oil, or vitamin E.

This definitely makes sense! Thanks for the tips!

Aka you shouldn't use pore strips unless your skin can handle it. There is a small chance of irritating the skin and/or causing broken capillaries
