Hypertrophic Scars
These scars are thick and raised on your skin, and can usually be found on your chest and on your back. The best treatment option for reducing the look of hypertrophic scars is to ask your GP about getting cortisone injections. These will help to smooth out the appearance of the raised skin and make it look flatter.

Atrophic Scars
These are the pitted, depressed marks that you get as a result of damaged collagen in the skin. They are divided into three types, ice pick, which look like tiny holes, rolling which look like small, wavy indentations and boxcar, which look like craters. They are most commonly found on the face, and you can have them treated really effectively with something like laser surgery. Cheaper alternatives include needlework to break up the scar tissue and help for mild scarring with prescription retinoids.

Dark Spots
When your body is healing from the acne, your skin can sometimes produce too much melanin, leaving you with hyperpigmentation in the form of brown or pink patches. Again, these patches are most commonly found on the face. In order to encourage a fading process, you need to be looking for a product that includes alpha hydroxyl acids and hydroquinone.
