1

Listen to Your Tattoo Artist

One of the best skincare tips for a new tattoo is to listen to what your tattoo artist says and disregard what anyone else tells you, even if they have tons of tattoos. You can ask for the aftercare tips in writing or take notes as he tells you what to do. I know that when I got inked I wasn’t really thinking about anything beyond showing everyone my new tattoo, so written instructions will come in handy.

2

Clean It

Once you remove the bandage from your new tattoo, it needs to be washed. Again, do this according to your tattoo artist’s instructions. Generally, you’ll gently wash the area with warm water and soap. This helps keeps the area clean and free of germs and bacteria that could lead to an infection.

3

Don’t Rub It

When you dry your tattoo, blot it gently with a clean, dry towel. It’s going to be very tender and sensitive for the first few days so treat it with care so you can be as comfortable as possible. I like to use a soft washcloth to do this step because it’s small but efficient.

4

Keep It Moist

This is step that differs among tattoo artists. Some recommend using Vaseline while others suggest Neosporin. Make sure you use the ointment recommended by your tattoo artist. It’s very important to keep your tattoo moist for the first few days after it’s done. This keeps it from scabbing while it heals, which can mess up the way it looks. You spent a lot of time and money on your ink so you definitely don’t want that to happen.

5

Go Easy

Not only do you need to be extra gentle with the area you had tattoeed, but most tattoo artists recommend going easy on the cream. Too much will hinder the healing process. Be sure you’re only using a thin layer of the recommended ointment. Gently rub it in so it can do its job.

Famous Quotes

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

6

Avoid Water

Yes, you can still take a shower. However, you’ll need to avoid soaking in the bathtub, the pool or the hot tub for several weeks after getting your new tattoo. Soaking the tattoo in water for extended periods of time can mess it up and get in the way of proper healing.

7

Stay out of the Sun

Likewise, you are going to have to avoid tanning beds and prolonged sun exposure as your tattoo heals. That’s because ultraviolet light and sunshine can fade the ink as you wait for the tattoo to heal and the ink to sink in. You don’t have to become a recluse, but try to limit your exposure in the few weeks following your tattoo.

Of course, the best thing to do if you have any questions is to call your tattoo artist and ask. What does your tattoo look like?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

Keeping it moist prolongs healing and neosporin is is bad. Do nooott use any kind of ointment or antibiotic cream! It pulls out ink and will block oxygen flow..slowing the healing process Also maybe mention that, after the scabs have fallen off on their own, DO NOT PICK, sunscreen is super important..

I have a rose with a crescent moon on my forearm :)

I have a dreamcatcher

My artist told me to use Aquaphor on my ink and to clean it with Dial Gold antibacterial soap. My ink still looks great! It healed very well and quickly.

Its painful, getting a tattoo..
