Basic Homemade Lotion

This is a great recipe to start out with because the ingredients are fairly easy to find and the directions are easy to follow. Once you get the technique down, you can try other things to create your own personal blend.

Ingredients:

½ cup almond oil
¼ cup coconut oil
¼ cup beeswax
1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
2 tablespoons cocoa butter
Essential oils

Directions:

Place the ingredients in a jar. Put the jar in a pan with a couple inches of water and heat over medium. When the ingredients melt, shake the jar to combine them. Pour into a pump bottle.

Aloe Vera Lotion

Aloe vera is very soothing for the skin and is great for chapped, dry or burned skin on any part of your body. You will love how pampered this recipe makes you feel.

Ingredients:

1 cup pure aloe vera gel
½ cup beeswax, grated
½ cup almond oil
1 teaspoons vitamin E oil
15 drops essential oil of your choice

Directions:

Place the aloe vera gel, vitamin E oil and essential oils in a bowl and allow to come to room temperature. Melt the beeswax and almond oil in a measuring cup placed into a saucepan of water. Pour into the blender and allow to cool, but remain soft. Turn the blender to low, remove the top and slowly add the aloe vera mixture. Transfer to a jar and refrigerate.

Sunscreen Lotion

You know that you should be wearing SPF anytime you spend time outdoors and this lotion lets you do it up just right. You can block the rays of the sun and keep your skin hydrated with this DIY lotion. What more could a girl ask for?

Ingredients:

2 ounces beeswax
1 ounce cocoa butter
1 ounce shea butter
2 ounces coconut oil
2 ounces avocado oil
1 tablespoon powdered zinc oxide
10 drops carrot seed oil
10 drops myrrh oil
25 drops lavender oil
2 drops sandalwood oil

Directions:

Warm the beeswax, cocoa butter, shea butter and coconut oil in a double boiler until melted. Remove from heat and add the zinc oxide powder, whisking to combine well. Stir in the avocado oil and the essential oils and combine. Transfer to jars or tubes.

Non-Greasy Lotion

½ cup shea butter
1 tablespoon almond oil
1 tablespoon jojoba oil
10 to 15 drops essential oil

Directions:

Melt the shea butter and oils (but not the essential oils) together in a double boiler. Cool in the refrigerator for 10 to 15 minutes. Now add the essential oils and mix until creamy. Transfer to a jar.

Bronzing Caffeine Lotion Bars

This lotion comes in bar form and will give you a healthy bronzed glow while also refreshing and revitalizing the skin all over your body.

Ingredients:

¼ cup cocoa butter
¼ cup coconut oil infused with coffee
1 tablespoon beeswax
½ teaspoon cocoa powder
½ teaspoon cornstarch
Pinch cinnamon

Directions:

Place the cocoa butter, coconut oil and beeswax in a double boiler and melt together. Remove from the heat and add the cocoa powder, cornstarch and cinnamon. Pour into a mold or ice cube tray and allow to harden. Store the bars in an airtight container or jar with a tight fitting lid.

Grapefruit Whipped Body Lotion

Sounds like the perfect indulgence, right? Not only does this cream smell super refreshing and summery, but it’s great at hydrating your skin and giving you the feel and look you want.

Ingredients:

½ cup room temperature coconut oil
2 tablespoons room temperature raw shea butter
1/8 teaspoon pure almond extract
Zest of 1 red grapefruit
2 teaspoons tapioca starch

Directions:

Mix the coconut oil, shea butter, almond extract and zest with a hand mixer for 30 seconds on medium. Turn the mixer to high and whip for 4 minutes. Add the tapioca starch and whip for an additional 30 seconds. Store in a jar.
