DIY Wake-up Scrub

The best thing about this body scrub recipe is that you can recycle the coffee grounds from your morning coffee! Using coffee grounds in your body scrub allows you to apply the caffeine from coffee topically which improves circulation, treats cellulite and polishes your skin! You’ll love taking in the rich and luxurious fragrance of coffee and peppermint to energize and refresh you!
Ingredients:
1/4 cup olive oil
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 cup pure turbinado sugar
15 drops peppermint essential oil (Mentha piperita)
1/2 cup used coffee grounds from a freshly brewed pot
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl; using a fork, thoroughly blend. Transfer the scrub to a wide mouthed jar, and store in a cool place until ready to use. The scrub will keep for one to two weeks, longer if refrigerated.

While showering, apply handfuls of the coffee scrub to wet skin in circular motions, starting at the feet and working up. The scrub contains oil, so it's best to do this over a rubber mat to avoid slipping. Pay particular attention to rough spots such as heels, ankles, knees, and elbows.

After scrubbing, cleanse skin as usual using a mild natural soap or body wash. Pat skin dry with a fluffy towel, and follow with lotion to seal in the moisture.

5

Gentle Oatmeal Body Scrub

If you have sensitive skin, using sugar or salt in your body scrub recipe might be a little too harsh for your unique skin type. Luckily there’s a simple solution to this beauty quandary-oatmeal! In fact, it’s ideal to calm red, itchy or dry skin so if you skin has taken a beating from the winter air, make this ASAP!

Homemade Body Scrub

This next body scrub recipe can be summed in two words: easy and natural! All you need is coconut oil, raw sugar and lavender essential oil to create a lovely body polish that will condition and nourish your skin all over! Reuse containers from your old body scrubs or beauty products to make an earth-friendly and all-natural scrub for your skin!
Ingredients:
An old jar with lid
Enough RAW sugar to fill the jar almost to the top.
Natural Coconut Oil
Lavender Essential Oil
Directions:
Make sure the jar you’ll be using is nice and clean and that the lid secures tightly. Fill the jar with raw sugar until it almost reaches the top. Pour coconut oil over the sugar slowly until you see it has completely coated the sugar. Stir the sugar and coconut oil together until they are well mixed. It should NOT be runny. Honey Almond Sugar Sleepy Scrub

This is another body scrub recipe that would make a unique gift! It calls for a couple of tablespoons of Sleepytime tea which contains chamomile, lemongrass and spearmint to soothe skin along with almond extract and honey for an aromatic blend of herbs and kitchen staples. Doesn’t this scrub sound good enough to eat?!
Ingredients:
About 3 parts white sugar and 1 part honey.
2 Tablespoons Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime tea (P.S.-use this more quickly, since the tea won’t be good forever)
1 Teaspoon almond extract. You could also use an essential oil here instead.
Directions:
Mix all ingredients together. The consistency: Not oily runny everywhere, like the honey won’t mix all the way in. Not breaking apart and lumpy like there is too much sugar.

Use these body scrub recipes when you skin needs a little lift or you just want to treat yourself to a fragrant treatment at home. Body scrubs will get rid of dead skin cells, make shaving easier and smooth out your skin. Do you make your own body scrubs at home? What’s your favorite body scrub recipe?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

Love this article! I had the best skin when I used to make my own simple scrub with sugar or kosher salt and olive oil, and used it every other day. I stopped when I started using self tanner but I'm going to start up again and just "tan" more. Thanks for the additional scrub Carrie!

I just tried the coconut and brown sugar one. I feel like a goddess :)

Thanks for this :)

I have been looking for something just like this! I am definitely going to try one of these.

A friend told me about a scrub I am going to try. She swears by it to help tighten her belly. Coffee grounds, turmeric, olive oil and vitamin e. she says that this ha worked for her and she has seen a big difference. I suffer from excess skin after childbirth so I am goin to attempt this.
